A resilience enhancing trauma‐informed program for children and mothers in domestic violence shelters: A qualitative study

In domestic violence (DV) shelters, offering psychosocial support services to mothers and children is vital. The program ‘Time for Tony the Turtle’ has been developed residing in DV shelters Netherlands. It aims foster attachment regulation skills, which can also prepare trauma treatment if sought after later on. This qualitative study explores experiences of mothers, professionals with its perceived impact what components function as facilitators barriers implementation such a crisis We conducted in-depth interviews 15 11 18 from three organizations shelters. used thematic analysis identify patterns meaning interviews. Mothers, valued that provided calm moment reflection hectic times playfulness addressed trauma-related topics. However, find it difficult attend beginning their shelter stay, therefore hampering applicability program. Our findings suggest integrating topic discussing father complex deserves more attention.
